Equipment

  • Blender (optional)
  • Shaker - use if you're skipping the blender

Ingredients

  • 500 ml Greek yoghurt min. 10%
  • 300-400 ml cold water
  • Salt to taste
  • Lemon juice optional

Instructions

  • Add ingredients to blender
Add yogurt, cold water, and a pinch (about 1/4 tsp) of salt to your blender.
  • Blend until frothy
Let it whizz for about a minute, or until you see those soft, airy foam bubbles on top. That’s your sign your Ayran is ready.
  • Taste check
Give it a little sip. Too tangy? Too salty? Feel free to tweak the yogurt, water, or salt and blend again for a few seconds.
  • Serve and enjoy
Pour the Ayran into glasses and enjoy it right away while it’s cold and refreshing.

Notes

  • Lemon juice – I love adding a splash of lemon juice. It gives the Ayran a bit of acidity and a refreshing touch. Add as much as you like—I usually go for about a tablespoon per glass.
